* This Time I was Suffering, er “Safar-ing” South to Chennai and Beyond. I must have passed through Chennai at least Six Times, but Each Time I was Anxious to get away, further South OR Return Home To Happy Hyderabad! I must have stayed in Chennai for perhaps a few Days, in Liveable IIT Madras Guest House for Project Work and to see an Uncle of mine being treated at Apollo Cancer Hospital on Anna Salai. Only Memorable Were the “Aavin” Paala Kova at Chennai Central and the Burning Heat and Sweat in the Day Time … Even on Top of a Star Hotel There Was No Escape from the Heat.
Further South, in Tiruchchi, Madurai, Rameswaram and Kanyakumari, the Food could be relished and the People More Helpful. In Madurai, I asked for Vada Sambar. The Waiter said, “Illey …”, then I showed him the Vadas piled in a Big Plate and Sambar in Buckets … It seems “Vada Sambar” OR “Sambar Vada” means only Vadas-Soaked-in-Sambar, they cannot be served Separately OR “Dryly”! Then, at Nights One Cannot get Meals in Interior Tamil Nadu … Only Snacks like “Dosa”, “Chappati”, and “Puri” one can ask for! … I was told this is in Continuation of the War Time Practice of Dark Nights and Light OR No Meals To Cook Or Eat At Night.
PS: Happy Hyderabad Hosts Meals and Dinners ALL the Time … Any Time “Meals Ready” Boards of Hotels Greet the Visiting Guests!
