ok guys...on the special occasison of my 1000th post, i'll write abt this good ol' hyderabadi institution - the irani cafe (locally pronounced "Kayf")! true, that these days more n more Coffee Pubs are increasing in numbers n popularity, but they can never replace the Irani Cafe around the corner...with its chipped crockery, marble top tables, mirrored walls and the dextrous waiters.
No one can better the taste of hot Irani chai, slurped from a saucer, and had with snacks like "chotta samosa", "osmania biscuit", "tie biscuit", "bun-butter", "egg/curry/mutton puff" etc... *droooool*
...or the typical bachelor's meal: 'by-two' Chai, Samosa n Gold Flake...!
Chai at an Irani cafe is also the traditional and unbeatable finishing touch to a heavy meal of hyderabadi biryani...or the Ramzan special - Haleem (one good reason why non-muslims in the city eagerly await Ramzan)!
Irani cafes also have their peculiar English (like "No mt Cup") and some even grandly call themselves "Hotel"
Many a disussion on politics, films, film stars, girls, gossip n non-veg jokes have sounded in the hot interiors of a cafe, and wud continue to take place...
...but i accept one downside of the Irani Cafes- they are not exactly places where gals like to be seen in...so cant take your girlfriend to Astoria or Madina and whisper sweet nothings over a cup of hot chai... :( i guess thats where the "new-age" cafes step in...but what the hell? cafes are meant for male-talk...not for females or romance...

I strongly urge new comers to hyderabad to give it a try...and get hooked! Best times: After lunch or in the evenings, after work - one sip and u r rejuvenated!

Irani cafes (usually Parsi run) are found in mumbai too but i heard their chai doesn't even come close...(what say Johnny? Mystie?)

Pizzas, Burgers n posh Cafes have their own place and purpose, but a true hard-core hyderabadi can never stop visiting a cafe!

so, 'CAFE' bhai...aap fikar nakko karo...hum logaan jab tak hain 'Kayf'aan bandh hongeich nai...

i think cafe will ever and always exist !!!!

Thats true if i get a chance for visiting hyd in future again, the very second day i will b in hi-luck cafe or saba cafe... (there r so many others also) i will have a cup of tea with tie-biscute and sit & watch people passing by on road and discuss on them. later i will go to maheshwari or ramakrishna for a matinee show........ :o :o :o

i remember those college days, we had 3 or 4 cafe just beside our college (hope u guys remember anwar ulloom) after every lecture or period we use to visit cafe for having a half cup of tea. pani ki tarah chai peetee the !!!!

according to me cafe the dhanda bada aacha aur munafe dar hai...

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm Irani chai.. AAAhaaaa.. Kitte din hue pee ke :(

Abbey Da irani chai which we get in Mumbai is No where, mind u No where close to even the worst irani chai available in HYd.

I can get a bit nostalgic now.. hmm i still rem. the Bharat cafe, Tea den, Greenland cafe, Hilton cafe, and ma Fav. Mujju cafe... where in all ma frnds used to sit and discuss everything under the sun while having yummy chai and biscuits. And it was a Faggit's Haven too :).

True one cant take a girl to a Cafe due to all da smoke and the atmo, but i must say at this point of time dat i had taken ma *Then Gf* to a cafe, just to have a great cup of tea... Wow it was so amazing.. :) She enjoyed a loooot. A diff experience :) How i miss those days.. anyways.. i wud make up for it the next time i m in hyd :).
