Hey all,

I want to discuss what life had thrown towards you and how someone helped you out and you will never forget it kind of thing.

Just anything that will change someone's day after reading this discussion and think, "You know, Today IS good, and tomorrow will be GREAT."

-Five7Jaan

Mine: When I was young, I used to live in Mumbai [ages ago :P] I fainted on the road coming back from the dentist's office, which was 30-40 minutes walk, I think I had tooth removed or something, its all fuzzy now. My mom was with me and of course, she panicked because who could you trust? I wasn't a familiar neighbourhood. And these amazing people from the nearest building came, revived and helped me out and that little generosity just made me a believer that there are good people who are worth having faith in and not everyone is as bad as it seems; epsecially when you always remember the negative better. And it is something that has stayed with me all through these years.

I am sure that you have your miracles to share.

My mother told me an incident once - she's an arthritis patient, and used to slowly walk back home from the bus stop every evening. She's been a major devotee of Ammavaru (the goddess Parvathi) ever since I can remember, and used to keep chanting Her name every day on the way back. On one of these days, I think in 1996, there was a mad bull that came rampaging towards her on the empty road. She stopped completely, her mind going blank - there was no way she could get out of the way, given her condition. Then suddenly a man came from somewhere on a bicycle, simply shooed it away (apparently it just turned around and went away), and told my mother "Meeru vellandamma, em paravaledu." By the time my mother got back to her senses and wanted to thank him, there was nobody there.

I don't know if it was humanity or beyond, but I'm glad my mum's still around. You could do anything for someone who's saved your mum's life, but I don't know when and where I'll find this guy :).

i find Hyderabadis especially helpful..

lotsa times, ive been helped by total strangers who've gone out of their way to see to it that i wasnt gonna be stranded just coz i had a puncture, car brokedown, bike's kick-rod fell off, i fell off the bike once n the ppl came in hordes to get me on my feet n made sure that i was OK!

generosities of strangers make u feel better abt the world around u..

Even small gestures like the ones zc mentions also make a lots of difference...it might be a mere act of politeness for the person who does it, but for the receiver it might mean a hell of a lot...

say, have anyone seen the movie 'Pay It Forward'...was telecast on HBO recently...that film illustrates how small acts of kindness go a long way and make a lot of difference...

Yes I agree.

Small gestures, acts of kindness and courteousness go a long long way in making someones rotten day a lil better and prolly he /she may want to be a lil nice to other ppl and this could really carry on like some chain reaction. And you prolly even wont know how many other ppl would actually feel good about a small "please" or a "thank you".

I do have this irritating habit of pulling out a quote but maybe it gets the msg across

Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.

Does helping someone finish their luch box(with or without their knowledge) count as an act of goodness... If yes. Then I must be a saint by now. Let me call the pope and get on canonization list.

I agree with Azazel, MonaLisa... Little things do matter. Even if it means we have to use-up some of our valuable time.

I love Hyderabad for this. People always try to help each other. Its one of the nicest places I have ever lived in.

Kindness ...

Thiruvalluvar ("The Kural") is credited with this Verse:

Hard it is to find in this World

A greater good than Kindness

"ThanKs", perhaps acknowledges, the goodness of a Kindness shown or experienced!

Hi.........

Its been hardly some time since i moved to hyderabad. i m basically frm bbay born and bought up there kinds so i was quite apprehensive to move to a new city that too all alone. But after coming here i realised people r so helpful they could actaully go out of their way to help someone. It dint take me much time to get settled in this warm and freindly city. Infact i m so comfortable that i prefer it to bombay and all this can b attributed only to the attitude of hyderabadis. There is no particular incidence as such but its the attitude that really touched my heart..... :P

Nice thread u started Five7.

Brings to mind so many incidents. My bike spluttered and came to a stop on Rd 12, B Hills 2 weeks ago and I was told that there was a bunk next to 'Tadka'. Started wheeling it in the hot afternoon sun. Did that for a couple of min, when along came an auto-driver and in true Hyd style asked me "Kya hua madam, petrol khatam ho gaya?". To cut a long story short, I reached the bunk in a couple of min and the autochap simply vanished with me hardly realising. I felt a lil guilty about being able able to convey a hardly coherent thank you (what in the hustle-bustle). But I did say a silent prayer for his well-being.

Also, I strongly believe in the 'what goes around, comes around' funda. The karma theory. I've seen instant results! Will write in later.

Interesting... How about I take you to lunch and we discuss more about the Karma Theory. I beleive in it too.

You cant say NO... , because if you do, somebody else who you want to go to lunch with will say NO to you. Theory of karma - "What goes around, comes around " right. If you say NO to me, sombody else will say NO to you. You are trapped... too bad.

Bimbette, congratulations, you can officially say that you had an original movie scene moment/episode! [Only thing missing was a director yelling, "Cut!" in the end] :D

Admit it you didnt think about the topic "touched by humanity" in this context before you started it. Another reason for you to read your posts twice before you submit. Else you will find me all over it like flea on bull-poo. Gotcha...

Bimbette : I know the autorikshaw walla, his name is srinu and in last life you helped him push his bullock cart from the sand. So he helped you with your bike this time. Karma for you. I had to call Yama-Dhrama Raja for this info. You know me I have contacts all over...

Hi guys!

Me a displaced Bombayite living in Hyd. I remember this one time in 1997 during the monsoons my sis was stranded at Nariman Point and reached VT somehow just to find that the Local Trains werent working, all the buses were packed to the hilt etc and it was raining! She actually found this guy at Bombay High Court, who along with his wife took her and her friend home, gave them dry clothes and food to eat and sheltered them for the night. All this by a total stranger!

Who says Bombayites don't have a heart. We just don't wear it on oursleeves thats all.

Bye!

rain this reminds me of a simliar incident that happ to me in bbay. I was strangled at cuffe parade and had to get back to versova, the trains had stopped by then and buses were just too full, i managed to get into a cab with some strangers as they could accomodate one extra person in their group, then for the rest of the journey i had someone walking with me thru the waters till we came to bandra to get a train . Another incident that touched my heart was again during the monsoons. I was getting back frm town and was in the bus. Our bus was stuck up in the traffice jam at dadar for more than 3 hours on just one road. the residents were so good that they had arranged for water for all the people there, as in they came with glasses of water or with hot tea and were passing it on in the buses. It was so thoughtful.I love the bbay never say die attitude.A problem with bbay is that people get together or rather show their concern only when something drastic happens else they r so busy with their life runing around trains or catching up with time that they woudl not even acknowledge a person sitting next to them. this dosent happen in hyd. u can expect a smile frm a stranger too

Yet another angelic auto-guy. Those who have stayed in Hyd and commuted by autos often can vouch for how nasty they can be.

This is an incident say a good 5-6 yrs back when night life in Hyd isnt quite what it is today. Was walking alone down road no 3 Banjara hills at 8:30 pm looking for an auto. The place was eerie and quite isolated as well. And to add to that I was being stalked. Tried to pretend I wasnt ruffled, I just walked on. There was auto who asked me where i wanted to go. "Sec-bad" i said. He said he had to go elsewhere. I noticed the stalker was still around. So i carried on. The same auto guys comes and stops over in front of me and says "Madam these guys are not good, I will drop you at P'gutta crossroad". I was shocked ... When I got off and offered to pay up " Thank you Bhaiyya yeh lo", he flatly refused said "Bhaiyya bole, bas hai".

That was a senti angle but there was a sigh of relief that even a small time auto wallah seemed to know what courtesy meant.

WOW thats amazing.... indeed that auto wala does have a heart. I AM TOUCHED... deeply :|

Well i wanna narrate a real life incident that happend to my far of cousin. It wud all seem like a movie story, but it is true.

My cousin along with his friends had gone to watch some movie in a theatre, he was sitting 2 rows behind a group of 3 girls. and in between there was this group of 5 boys (tapori types..). They were making lewd comments about a particular girl in the group of 3 girls, and trying to u know touch them from behind and sorts... my cousin couldnt tolerate that and he immediately took those fellows into action and beat them up with help form his friends too ofcourse.. and the interesting thing is that now that girl and ma cousin are happily married :). So they met like that through serendipity. COOL NA ;)
