* "Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."

- Geroge W. Bush, August 5, 2004 to Joint Chiefs and Members of Cabinet

Comment: Did anyone ever have any doubt?

* Strong Leadership in a time of crisis? "While America was still under attack, Bush sat stunned into inaction, blank-faced, listening to children read about a pet goat for more than five minutes. And when he finally huddled with his advisers, it was to discuss what to say, not what to do to defend the country." While Cheney^ took charge for his lil buddy.

* 5-Minute Video of George W. Bush on the Morning of 9/11

Visit: http://www.thememoryhole.org/911/bush-911.htm

This footage, obtained and presented exclusively by The Memory Hole, shows President Bush sitting in a Florida classroom for 5 minutes after he was told that the second Twin Tower has been hit and that America was being attacked. A truncated version of this footage that has been available online since June 2002 shows Bush for only 2 minutes, 10 seconds after being told. This new footage more than doubles this length of time.

Immediately below, you'll find still-frames from the video, one every 5 seconds starting when Chief of Staff Andrew Card gives Bush the news and ending when the scene abruptly ends.

** "I think it was his battery." --Sen. John Edwards, after Jay Leno asked him about Bush's mystery bulge during the first presidential debate, which some speculated might have been a radio transmitter to feed him answers through an earpiece

*** "Did the training wheels fall off?" –-Sen. John Kerry, after being told by reporters that President Bush took a tumble during a bike ride

**** "I spent several years in a North Vietnamese prison camp, in the dark, fed with scraps. Do you think I want to do that all over again as vice president of the United States?" --Sen. John McCain, on rumors that he might be John Kerry's running mate

[b]Kerry Uses Bush's Own Words to Call Him Unfit

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Reuters) - Democratic Challenger John Kerry threw the words back at the President George W Bush during an appearance in Toledo, where he announced he was going "to apply the Bush standard" and declared: "Mr. President, I agree with you."

"George Bush jumped to conclusions about 9/11 and Saddam Hussein," he said. "George Bush jumped to conclusions about weapons of mass destruction ... George Bush jumped to conclusions about how the Iraqi people would receive our troops. He not only jumped to conclusions, he ignored the facts he was given."

President Bush had on Wednesday accused Kerry of opportunism, saying: "A political candidate who jumps to conclusions without knowing the facts is not a person you want as commander-in-chief."

* We come to love not by finding a perfect person, but by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly.

**
A girl asked a boy if she was pretty.
He said no

She asked him if he wanted to be with her forever.
He said no

She then asked him if he would cry if she walked away.
He again said no.

She had heard too much.
She needed to leave.

As she walked away, he grabbed her arm and told her to stay, he said:

"You're not pretty, your beautiful. I don't want to be with you forever, I need to be with you forever. I wouldn't cry if you walked away, I would die."

Kerry Calls Bush's "Bluff" ... Bush Counter

* Democratic Challenger John Kerry told a Rally in the USA: "We are united as Americans. There's no Democrat, there's no Republican. We are all Americans and all united in our determination to seek out and destroy Osama bin Laden and the other terrorists."

# Kerry said the United States needed "the leadership of our troops and the strategies that make us safe" and promised to do better at both than Bush.

# "As I have said for two years now, when Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda were cornered in the mountains of Tora Bora, it was wrong to outsource the job of capturing them to Afghan warlords," Kerry said.

# Bush had said shortly after the Sept. 11 attacks that he wanted bin Laden "dead or alive," but the al Qaeda leader has not been caught.

* Bush Hits Kerry on Security After Bin Laden Tape

# President Bush, following new threats by Osama bin Laden, accused Democratic rival John Kerry on Saturday of weakness and inaction.

# Bush portrayed himself as a steady hand at the tiller with a stiff backbone to fight the terrorists.

He painted Kerry, by contrast, as someone who would favour a "cut and run" approach.

# "In less than 72 hours, the American people will be voting and the decision comes down to: Who do you trust?" Bush asked more than 5,000 supporters in Green Bay, Wisconsin. They shouted back: "You."

* But Kerry campaign spokesman Phil Singer scoffed at Bush's reference to trust, saying: "The country wants a President who can do two things at once -- defend America and fight for the middle class. John Kerry is the only Candidate in the race who will do that."

Bush, Kerry in Tight Sprint to Finish

Sun Oct 31, 2004 04:52 PM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush and Democratic Sen. John Kerry sprinted for the finish on Sunday in a deadlocked battle for the White House, as Kerry appealed for change and Bush asked voters to "stand with me."

# A flurry of new polls showed the race an absolute dead heat ...

# At a rally in New Hampshire, Kerry said he could do a better job than Bush in Iraq and in fighting terror and said Americans faced a choice about the future on Tuesday.

# Bush stayed on the offensive in Florida, urging supporters to "come stand with me" and repeating his attacks on Kerry as a weak-kneed and flip-flopping leader.

# Several new polls showed the race deadlocked heading into the last two days. A Reuters/Zogby tracking poll showed Bush and Kerry in an exact tie at 48 percent each.

Bush, Kerry in Last-Ditch Scrap To Break Election Deadlock

Bush, Kerry in Last-Ditch Scrap To Break Election Deadlock (02/11/2004)

ALBUQUERQUE, United States (AFP) George W. Bush and John Kerry took their presidential race down to the wire, barnstorming across key battleground states in a last-ditch push for votes to swing a contest that remained stubbornly deadlocked.

With poll after poll showing the rivals still level ahead of Tuesday's vote, one survey stood out in suggesting an erosion in support for president Bush on the key issues of terrorism and the war in Iraq.

# "This election comes down to who do you trust. Who do you trust to make this country secure?" Bush, 58, told supporters in Pennsylvania, his second stop on a six-state blitz that took in Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa, New Mexico and Texas.

"If this country shows uncertainty or weakness during these troubled times, the world will drift toward tragedy," he said. "If you believe America should fight the war on terror with all our might and lead with unwavering confidence in our ideals, I ask you to come stand with me."

# Kerry, 60, opened with a rally in Florida then took off on a dash through the Midwest battleground states of Wisconsin, Michigan and Ohio.

"I believe we deserve a president who knows how to fight a more effective war on terror and make America safer," he told supporters.

"This is the choice, this is the moment of accountability for America, and it is the moment that the world is watching what you do," Kerry said.

# A Gallup poll for CNN/USA Today, conducted after the broadcast Friday of a videotaped message by Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden, showed Kerry cutting Bush's 14-point lead on Iraq to four points and halving a 22-point deficit on terrorism.

# The two campaign teams crossed paths at Milwaukee airport, allowing Kerry a glimpse of the presidential jet, Air Force One, that he hopes to claim for his own use next January.

# Four of the latest polls called the contest a dead heat, while six others gave Bush a statistically insignificant lead of one to three points. The percentage of undecided voters varied from two to eight points.

# The victor requires a majority of the 538 electoral college votes that decide the presidency and are awarded in separate, mostly winner-take-all races.

The verdict appeared to hinge on the results in Florida and a handful of northern states such as Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Analysts have not ruled out a candidate winning the popular vote and losing the election -- as Democrat Al Gore did in 2000 -- or a 269-269 tie in the electoral college vote that could force Congress to decide the outcome.

WASHINGTON (AFP) The US presidential race lurched toward the chaos of 2000 with President George W. Bush grabbing a firm lead, Democrat John Kerry refusing to concede and no official winner immediately in sight.

In a nerve-wracking reminder of the contest four years ago that was finally decided by the US Supreme Court, the election was snagged over the results from the critical midwestern state of Ohio that could take days to finalize.

Fox News and NBC gave Bush the state that would virtually seal his re-election. But CNN said it was too close to call and CBS and ABC television made no judgment.

The Kerry campaign refused to recognize the loss of the battleground state that could hold the key to the White House. Kerry's running-mate John Edwards vowed, "We will fight for every vote."

Campaign manager Mary Beth Cahill said more than 250,000 votes remained to be counted in Ohio. "We believe when they are, John Kerry will win Ohio."

The Republicans stepped up pressure on the Democrats to concede, with Bush campaign communications director Nicolle Devenish calling their refusal "delusional."

Today I hope that we can begin the healing," Kerry told supporters. "I would not give up this fight if there was a chance that we would prevail," he said.

* If you haven’t heard already, we’re blessed to have President Bush in office another four years. _ Morris credits the Hispanic vote; others say evangelical Christians made the difference. I don’t care who’s responsible for the victory, honestly. He won because of supportive Americans, period, whether they are Hispanic, evangelical Christian, Jewish, Catholic, or whatever. A majority of Americans chose Bush, translating into a somewhat narrow win in the Electoral College but a substantial 3.5 million votes more than Sen. John Kerry. It happened fairly, and liberal pundits and the mainstream media cannot deny it. So their focus now, and the hatred that goes with it, will be less upon Bush than upon the 59,054,087 ''dumb'' people who want him to stay in the world’s most powerful job.

* Most of the buzz this week is about how Bush’s re-election could have happened. To quote Kerry, ''I can’t believe I’m losing to this idiot.'' I mean, the American people have put their future into the hands of a man who nearly choked to death on a pretzel. Why would they do this? Well, I know liberals can’t possibly understand, but it has something to do with conviction--conviction that our country, not the rest of the world, knows how best to combat terror. Conviction that America’s moral drift must stop if this nation is to survive. The left is stunned because Americans who feel this way outnumber Americans who don’t. ...

Quotes -12 / 11 : Prayer For Diwali / Dipavali ...

Hey Waheguru!

"Raaj Na Chaahayu, Mukti Na Chaahyu
Man Preet Charan Kamlaare"

Oh Wonderful Lord!
I neither desire for empire and material realm nor liberation or mukti,
my soul longs for the love of your lotus feet.

Celebrating Diwali and Lightening a Deeva in true sense is acquiring divine knowledge and being selfless, tolerant, humble, kind and sweet spoken. That leads one to become one with Waheguru (god).

Pray to God on this beautiful occasion of Diwali to give us light,
to give us understanding,
so that we may know what
pleaseth thee,
and may all (all whole mankind)
prosper by the Grace.

Waheguru ji Ka Khalsa, (Hail God's Khalsa)
Waheguru ji ki Fateh. (Victory be to God)

*Happy Deepawali*

Quotes -13 / 11 : RAMZAN ID ...

Quotes -13 / 11 : RAMZAN ID ...

RAMZAN ID

Ramzan Id is an occasion for a general expression of goodwill and friendship. Even those who are dead are not excluded from the benefit of this Id.
# So it is a prevalent custom in certain parts of India for the living wife of a Muslim to offer new clothes and finery to a former dead wife in a small ceremony which is known by the name -"SAUKAN MAURA" - which literally means first wife's crown.
# Greeting cards printed with "Id Mubarak" which is also the greetings for this Id festival are sent to friends and relatives also when friends meet they greet each other saying "Id Mubarak".
# The special sweet which is a "must" and is prepared in every Muslim house is SHIRKHURMA.

Ingredients:

120 gms vermicelli (sivayya)
4 cups milk
1/4 tsp saffron
5 tbs sugar or more if required.
1/2 tsp cardamom powder
1 tbs. charoli wiped with cloth
10 almonds blanched
15 Pistachios blanched
2 tbs kishmis cleaned
8 to 10 drops of rose essence.
1 1/4 tbs good ghee.
2 silver vargs (leaves).

Method:

* Heat the saffron in a small metal bowl on very low fire, shaking the bowl all the time so that the saffron threads do not turn. When cooled, crush it with fingertips and keep aside.
* Heat ghee in a heavy-bottomed pan, lower the fire, put in the vermicelli and fry to a light golden colour. Pour 1/2 cup water.
* In a few minutes the vermicelli would become soft. Pour milk and cook for 8 minutes.
* Add sugar and simmer for another few minutes till a little thick.
* Cut blanched almonds and Pistachios into fine slivers. Add half of these along with Charoli, Cardamom powder, Kishmis, crushed Saffron and rose essence.
* Either rose essence or saffron should be used to keep the flavour pure.
* Pour this ready Shirkhurma in a big glass bowl and sprinkle the remaining slivers of almond and pistachios.
* Garnish with silver varg and serve hot or cold.

*Id Mubarak*

EVANGELINE IN ACADIE

SOMEWHAT apart from the village, and nearer the Basin of Minas,
Benedict Bellefontaine, the wealthiest farmer of Grand-Pré,
Dwelt on his goodly acres; and with him, directing his household,
Gentle Evangeline lived, his child, and the pride of the village.
Stalworth and stately in form was the man of seventy winters; 5
Hearty and hale was he, an oak that is covered with snowflakes;
White as the snow were his locks, and his cheeks as brown as the oak-leaves.
Fair was she to behold, that maiden of seventeen summers.
Black were her eyes as the berry that grows on the thorn by the wayside,
Black, yet how softly they gleamed beneath the brown shade of her tresses! 10
Sweet was her breath as the breath of kine that feed in the meadows.
- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Quotes -21 / 11 : Giving, Enjoying and Receiving

Quotes -21 / 11 : Giving, Enjoying and Receiving
...

* Anyone can give away money or spend it, but to do all this to the right person, to the right extent, at the right time, for the right reason, and in the right way, is no longer something easy that anyone can do. It is for this reason that good conduct [in such matters] is rare, praiseworthy, and noble.

--Aristotle, Book Two, Nicomachean Ethics

** 'If I give it, what can I ENJOY?’

Such selfish thinking is the DEMON'S WAY.

‘If I enjoy it, what can I GIVE?’

Such ALTRUISM is the way of gods.”

-- From Shantideva’s Teaching of Great Compassion, Tolerance, Remedy for Anger in Robert A. E. Thurman, Essential Tibetan Buddhism, 1995

Quotes -23 / 11 : Forgive and Forget

by HH » Tue Nov 23, 2004 2:17 pm

Quotes -23 / 11 : Forgive and Forget
...

* Forgive and Forget
# Someone did you wrong and you’re angry you’re not just angry, you’re plotting a way to get even. You can’t wait to see that so-and-so, and turn the tables on him.
# Nations do that, too, on a larger scale ...
# What does it mean to forgive?
# ... one meaning of forgive is to give up resentment or claim to retaliation. In this context, forgiveness is not about another person-it’s about us. When I realize that I feel better when I give up anger and vengeful thinking toward another, it makes sense that forgiveness is something I give to myself, not something I grant to another. What
better gift might I give myself than peace, calm, and serenity? We cannot simultaneously feel anger and peace. We cannot be serene while planning revenge.
# Forgiveness is more than a magnanimous act of charity. Forgiveness is a gift to ourselves-a gift of peace, calm, and serenity. Forgive and forget allows us to move on to activities with positive potential - activities with the possibility of joy.
