[BHUMI] FREEDOM UNDER CONSTRUCTION - 2007

Every August 15th, we at BHUMI(http://www.bhumi.in ) celebrate Independence Day in a special way. Last year at the stroke of midnight of August 14 th, BHUMI helped the Government High school in Rasoolpura Slum to reclaim land lost to encroachments and built 3 temporary class rooms for children.



This year we (http://bhumi.in/fuc.htm ) will take next steps towards 'Holistic Integrated Development' of Rasoolpura Slum through two key initiatives: 1) A livelihood program to raise the standard of living 2) DLSE – a program designed to empower and enable young people of Rasoolpura to be the agents of development. 'Freedom Under Construction' is a symbolic beginning to all our initiatives in the year to come.



This year BHUMI intends to build 18 permanent classrooms for the school. BHUMI volunteers will be assisted by 'Hyderabad Deccan Round Table 189' as infrastructure partners in this initiative.



Through this initiative which would be a unique celebration of the Independence Day, we look forward to generating funds for the endeavours we have planned for the coming year, 15 August 07 to 14 th August 08



FREEDOM UNDER CONSTRUCTION 2007:



00:00 hrs 15th August, volunteers of BHUMI & residents of Rasoolpura will start a marathon construction activity at Government high School, Rasoolpura that will last for 24 hours. We will assist the skilled labour in excavations and by the end of the 60 th Independence Day we would have laid the foundation for 18 new classrooms & a brighter future for the 800 kids of the school.







Volunteers of BHUMI & the individuals from the community continue working throughout the day (and night – for 24 hours – taking the respites in groups). Participants interested in becoming a part of the Unique Independence day celebrations can join the activity by registering themselves either booking their slots (of 1 hr & its multiples) on the website or at a registration desk at Ground Zero.







To complement the construction activity, many prominent painters of the city such as Mr.Vaikuntam, Ms. Kavita Deuskar etc have consented to come to the event site and paint on the theme – Freedom Under Construction. These paintings will be donated to BHUMI which will be eventually exhibited and auctioned for raising funds for our year long activities.
