Million March damages Telugu icons statues

by Ramprasad » Mon Mar 28, 2011 7:18 pm

I used to read all the statues when I was passing through Tankbund during my childhood days. I feel so sad and humiliated that I cannot read nor show these statues to my future heirs.

I remember when I was a kid of six years old, my Dad took me and my brother to TankBund. While I could not walk the long stretch and complained, he made me sit on his shoulders and walked along but made sure that he showed me and my brother each and every statue and told us that we should be proud of those personalities. Why did he say that though we belong to this region of Telangana? Because the statues belonged to them who had no barriers of region, race or caste.. They are the pride of our nation. I don't understand how demolishing statues of great social reformers, great poets and Sri Krishna Devaraya will form a new Telangana state. Statues are symbols of history, good or bad. Even if Hitler or Pol Pot statues were to be there, they should not be demolished. They serve as route maps to the future generations about the personalities, their deeds and guide them what to do and what not to.

All the statues need to be reinstalled and from the money taken from the pockets of those hoodlums.

I am at least happy that Buddha chose to stand on a rock midst of the lake.. He was spared :)
