The end of HPS Begumpet glory

The charm of the oldest and famous institutes of twin cities, HPS Begumpet, has come to a sad end, thanks to the caste-based prejudice adopted by the institutes’ governing board.



This year, out of 205 provisional selected candidates (out of their entrance test) for the first standard, 144 (over 70%) of them belong to caste-based reservation categories (42% Schedule Castes, 20% Schedule Tribes and 9% Backward Castes).



These 70% caste-based reserved categories enjoy relaxation from age restrictions and hence belong to 6 to 10 year’s age group as against the 5 year age restriction that is applicable for regular candidates.



With such caste-based prejudice of the institute and asynchronous age profile of the class the regular candidates (less than 30%) are compelled to stay away from the institute, leaving the entire entry breed of HPS filed with reserved candidates.



This is expected to dent the reputation of the institute, standard of instruction and will adversely impact the motivation of staff.



As such the attrition of students and staff is on the rise and it is expected to accelerate going forward.



It is very unfortunate that the future and reputation of the institute is jeopardized, making it the least attractive institutes of the twin cities.
