Overtaking from the left... what can we do?

by v t Chowdary » Thu Feb 06, 2003 8:09 pm

It is a common sight to see on our Hyd. roads youngmen overtaking vehicles on left. I wonder whether they know it is against the traffic rules. Also, it is unsafe for them. What to do about this vexing problem?

Overtaking from the left... what can we do?

I am presently staying outside of hyderabad and I am a born hyderbadi.. If you ask me, enjoy it. I miss it, so\'s the suggestion. On serious second thoughts, hey, enjoy it !! really, I miss our auto guys and the cyclists and the pedestrians and the .. ok, sorry. getting to the point, be careful and pray to God. and then keep writing regular letters to the appropriate authorities, if feasible form a club for this specific issue and then keep writing letters, from the CM to all the way down to the traffic police stations and to the newspapers and magazines. In essence, make it interesting and eye catching and probably even frustrtaing to the authorities to take notice of u and ur club to do something abt\' it. But remember, u wanna change, u have to change first.. no short cuts, no handing over \'do rupppe\' to the traffic police and the whole lot of gimmicks that we are so very used to.Good Luck. oh, and do not be vexed. it may cause serious accidents. smile and go ahead.. it helps.

Overtaking from the left... what can we do?

Folks, correct me if I\'m wrong here. I\'ve heard that there were some German traffic experts in Hyderabad to assess traffic and suggest changes to improve traffic conditions. After there research they concluded that we should not try to \"mess\" with our existing traffic system else we would be adding traffic delays by almost 100% more. It actually made sense to me! (keeping commute time in mind). Don\'t you think we actually reach earlier by not following the rules? Don\'t we use every inch of space on road that becomes available to reach fast? Please don\'t get me wrong here, I am not suggesting that we do not follow rules, but I am concerned that we cannot solve our traffic problems by following rules, because the real problem is the number of vehicles on the roads, definetely more than our roads can handle.

Durga, seems like you have been out of Hyd for quite sometime now, you are totally unaware of the standards of our cops in Hyd. They don\'t know anything less then 50 bucks! that too for a minor violation. Please don\'t degrade our policemen!

Overtaking from the left... what can we do?

hmm i agree overtaking from the left is a violation... but what do i do if a auto(or a truck for that matter) decides to drive bang in the middle of the road at a speed of 20 kmh. and honking the horn doesnt matter much to these jokers.. they are like the natural speed breakers..(buffaloes). or for that matter, take a wannabe hunk who thinks driving the car while talking on his mobile is sexy. he doesnt bother who is behind him. his speed (for all to see) is a crawling some mts per hour. and he insists on taking over the right side of the road. so do i follow the rules and wait for him to move left.. or just bury the little voice inside telling me not to do it.. and just overtake from the left? i think the traffic sense and respect for the rules has to improve as a whole. we cant single out a single rule violation. and who said overtaking from the right is safe?? many times did i get \"boxed\" between the divider and the mighty RTC vehicle.. just bcos the driver thought he was on some monte carlo race track veering the vehicle from the left end of the road to the right... or how many times did some guy on his luna or scooter.. jump out in front of the vehicle i am overtaking.. just bcos the road divider has a small crack where they want to sneak through....

If u strictly follow the traffic rules then you cant reach to your destination on time..thats for sure. A little zig zag is necessary according to the situation. Dont want to comment on the law protectors either traffic or...all are same and never gonna change. Interesting thing is if you travel in city on a bike without helmat and sunglasses..for 5-6 hours on a white shirt or trouser then after finishing your job..just look at your face and dress at once. You will enjoy it.

Overtaking from the left... what can we do?

Hi all of u
I am amused to see ur reaction to Hyd traffic.
I am driving a big car and I see lot of people overtaking me from left and crawl just before my fenders!!!
They don\'t care for their lives.
That they take \"U\" turn on flyovers ... once I caught an young lady with a baby in the front seat of a maruti at Gandhi Medical College Bashir Bagh. This resulted my friend banging his scooter behind her car and have a dent .
She still wanted to continue her U turn. Then I stood before her car and told her to go stright and take a U turn at Nizam College. She only oblized only when I became harsh. This is the traffic. So let us teach our brothers and sis how to use the roads.
