Secularism...?

In the forum "NRI", we were having a discussion on "Saudi Arab ki Zindagi" where there was an arguement on saudi life. somehow the thread morphed into a discussion on secularism in india.



i've now started a new thread here to hilight what i had said in that forum.



the latest news is the rule imposed by Mulayam in UP to close schools at noon on fridays. this is clearly imposed with muslim vote bank in the mind during the coming elections.

this is just the latest example of appeasement we were talking about. now it has resulted in the hindu fanatics demanding a half-day on tuesdays for the benefit of hindus, and majority of hindus in UP would feel this demand is justified.



what is the necessity for this rule? Isn't it only increasing animosity in citizens, including young children?

Like has been said earlier, rules should be made for everyone. How can things be different depending on which community one is from? It think it's ridiculous that the law changes when you move from one community to another. It just doesn't make sense. The definition of law is that it applies to everyone, regardless of religion, gender, size of shirt etc. The only scenario that would work is to have universal rules and deal with transgressors equally. That would be the only way to be fair...

..Thats called pandering to the minorities for the votes. It is universal , the 'disease', I mean. Hey, you know what though? the beneficiaries are always the minorities when the politicians begin to pander. I always wonder why do these politicians take the majority of the voters for granted. are we such asses !?



There's another thing that's occuring to me as I am writing: which Islamic country panders to their minorities?!!! to their christian/hindu/jew/etc brotheren..?

Turkey? maybe.. any other country?



whatever, we need to rise against such issues and let the politicians know that we arent going for a ride any more. what says you?

secularism is what every political party screams about when in public. Ask them what it means and they will have there own versions of it, as different from the actual meaning as chalk and cheese.



The idea of introducing secularism in India by Nehru was it self faulty. How do u encourage the people of a country which is thousands of years old, and boasts of various religions and tribes suddenly stop displying there respect for there gods in public?



Jawaharlal Nehru said that coconuts should not be broken when a new activity is begun as it was anti-secular. How stupid, that too in a country like india.



MIM has always been winning from the old city but much of it remains in shambles till now. where did all the public money go? the answer is simple it was gobbled up by the politicians them selves.



A secular state, according to me, is one which does not favour just one religion. there should be equal respect fot all the religions. Therefore dividing the population into minority an majority based on there religion should be banned. we are all indians we r all equals.

a good ideal to work for, but try selling it to politicians n lawmakers...u'll be hounded out or worse, even killed!

its the people who want to listen to this, if they change then so will the politicians,,,,but i guess u right in one way.....politicians want to maintain the status quo
