not just in Africa, but also the republics of erstwhile USSR...still he's next in stature to the Big B in those places!

His movies mean low investment promising moderate to good returns! its actually a good way to launder money for the underworld. someone will invest the 'bhai's' backmoney, show it as a loss due to the 'flop' and avoid taxes!

thats the reason why he still finds producers, tho his movies are all declared a flop. but all forget that even a week's run wud fetch returns for all concerned, esp in towns n villages.

From what I have read about the film industry, producers rarely ever make a loss (or too much of profits for that matter). It is the poor distributors - but then it cuts both ways.

If a movie is abso trash, then it won't find distributors. I will be flamed if I say Meenaxi is trash, but if MF Husain released it himself, you can pretty be sure that distributors didn't want to touch it.

I find Mithun movies far more entertaining than the sort of utter crap directors like Sooraj Barjatya, Subhash Ghai and Yash Chopra put out - all of whom are routinely fellated by the media. Mithun's movies have a healthy dose of insanity and chaos and some of the bizarrest fight sequences ever. I remember one in which he and Gulshan Grover are pulling these fantastic kung-fu poses at each other, with a series of explosions happening in the background. That's the coolest part of the explosions - they do NO damage to ANYBODY. They are just... there. That's far more humorous than a tired Johnny Lever, Laxmikant Berde comic routine, IMO.

Mithun as he rightly pointed out has no one to look for recognition but his fans. Rajnikant is the Guy Ritchie to the Orson Welles that is Mithun. I sincerely believe that if Mithun was French, German or Italian he would have been on the same plane as a Trauffaut, Fassbinder or Pasolini, and if he was American, Quentin Tarantino would have been heralded as the next mithun.

Hey, did you guys know that Mithun is the only actor (apart from Kamal Hassan) to have won the Natinal Award thrice? Yup - 3 friggin' times! A feat none of the other bolly guys could do. Ever.

I think Agnipath was one of those award-winning roles. Wonder which the others were? Maybe they were: Jallad - Guttar Guttar, Arey Chadgaya Upar Re, Gutar Gutar (dhiewn ta dhiewn) 8)

and Cheetah - The Disco-dancin' Leapord Man.

he got Filmfare awards for Agnipath (best supp. actor), Jallad (best villian!) n Disco Dancer ("gutar-gutar" is from Dalaal).

his natioanl awards were for Art films: Mrigaya (his first movie), Gudia and Swami Vivekananda (where he rocked as R'krishna P'hamsa!)

that plus innumerable chota-mota awards, an award in former USSR, an award in Egypt, an award in China and god knows where else!

now Ram Gopal Varma shud consider him: the icing on the cake!
