Iron Fence on Tank Bund Side

by neeraja » Thu Sep 04, 2003 11:37 am

MCH would have spent about lacs of rupees to lay the iron fence with concrete base all along the tankbund just very recently. But I was dismayed to see this morning that most of the fence has been demolished to the ground to make way for the cranes to be parked for Ganesh Immersion.

MCH knew very well about the Immersion but still what made them lay the fence in the first place wasting so much money? Any comments please...

There is a very old saying about MCH which was known as Baldiya at that time. Baldiya... Khaya, Piya aur Chaldiya.
The attitude of the MCH remains the same. As of today nothing has changed. Well, things have gone from bad to worse.

A criminal waste of resources! Instead of demolishing most of the fence, can\'t they allocate a particular place for Ganesh Immersion and make appropriate arrangements?

Learner, AFAIK the MCH left a particular section of the fence open for immersion. They just welded construction grade Iron rods (10 mm iron rods) as fencing in some parts and rest of the fence is stell/iron pipes. The MCH removes the iron fence during immersion to place the cranes. This happens only on the Tankbund road. And it doesn\'t cost much, a few welds and it\'s back in place again. This is what I saw two years back. I dunno if they have built complete iron pipe fencing now like Neeraja is saying.
May the Fries be with you!

Well this is how the government works, madam. Also, this is not the first case of wasting money. Look at our roads. They lay pipielines as soon as new roads are laid.

MCH asked some board for immersion of Vinayaka statues in the city to shift the prime location of immersion of statues from Hussain Sagar to any other lake in the twin cities. But, that board did not agree saying that Hussain Sagar is in the centre of the city. So, it is better to have Hussain Sagar as the place rather than the other lakes which are on the outskirts of the city. CM & MCH planned to improve the Tank Bund, and to make it one of the tourist places in the city by cleaning the water. But if that board is not ready to agree, then every year a lot statues go into the lake, making the water stink big time!

Well Andhraite,

The issue is about the iron fencing and the cementing done along the pavement. I pass by the tank bund 4 times in a day. I have seen the amount of work MCH had done to build that beautiful iron fence and cementing, so people also do not barg into the road from the tankbund pavment.

But just for immersion, the complete iron structures and the cement small wall were broken in no time. The complete exercise of spending the money, the amount of work, everything down the drain in no time. If only MCH had given a thought before they had planned the construction!
