GOD

by samai » Thu Mar 02, 2006 12:39 am

A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation. They talked about so many things and various subjects.

When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said: "I don't believe that God exists." "Why do you say that?" asked the customer. "Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can't imagine a loving a God who would allow all of these things."

The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond because he didn't want to start an argument.

The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop. Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and unkempt.

The customer turned back and entered the barbershop again and he said to the barber: "You know! what? Barbers do not exist." "How can you say that?" asked the surprised barber. "I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!" "No!" the customer exclaimed.

"Barbers don't exist because if they did, there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside."

"Ah, but barbers DO exist! " answered the barber. "What happens, is, people do not come to me".

"Exactly!"- affirmed the customer. "That's the point! God, too, DOES Exist! What happens, is, people don't go to Him and do not look for Him. That's why there's so much pain and suffering in the world."

Thats a great story for kids, but think about it. I mean really think.
You imply that everyone who is suffering in this world doesnt turn to GOD?
And what about the pain and suffering brought on people in the name of religion , and who actually are devote followers of their respective religions. So where is GOD then?

God May Be "Felt" / "Realised" ... Rathe

Belief / Non-Belief / Disbelief ... Mostly Matters Of "Convenience" / "Comfort" ... For Most People God May Only Be "Felt" / "Realised" ... Rather Than "Seen" ... For Them To "Turn" To! ... Many May Be Non-God / "May-Be-God" People!

You have this knack of beating me to whatever I want to say. :)

Well....people are sick sand sad because they're reaping something ill that they'd sown in the past. And that's the truth, however blunt it might be.

Contrary to people's belief that turning to God would end their misery, turning to Him in the true sense gives you the strength to bear the brunt of what you did. And this strength comes from the realisation that whatever you are going through is part of a cleansing process and this realisation can dawn upon you when you truly understand what God is and how this creation of His called the universe functions.

Well...here's some encouragement for you maybe. I am going on the lines you thought I would. But there's a slight disparity between what I say and what you understand. The account of Karma is a perennial one and not something where the balance is tallied at the end of a birth and brought forward in the new life. So, there is no distinction between the previous janma and the current one as far as the effect of one's Karma is concerned.

As for the suffering of little children, they might be little children for what you see them as. But I see them through a different perspective. I see them as souls who are beyond the limitations of a body. Let me put your own question back to you. How do you think a child can avoid being born crippled. By praying to God from the womb of its mother?

Nobody asked you to feast on my crap. You're free to accept it or reject it based on your understanding and its limitations.

Hi all,

I quite agree with what you said HP....but that bit on 'truly understanding what God is' is a little hazy.....how can one truly understand the Divine? By reading about Him ? By doing good deeds ?

For someone like me who doesn't read too much on spirituality/philosophy, I only swear by the karma theory.

I really need some sort of spiritual guidance coz I feel like an anchorless ship.

Any good recommendations (books) are welcome and will be appreciated.

Thanks!
Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you are right.

Come on ...Samai...and who so ever taking in the opposite to him..

Wake up Samai....come down to the real world....God is There ....i agree...just to keep humans in a disciplined manner...we call him as GOD the unseen...

What samai said is true in one manner....he did not mean to say as PURVA JANMA, but it is actually the way we do to someone will for sure return in one way or the other .....though it may be good or bad whtever..

hope u understand this .....just don't try to critisice one and the other try to say exactly wht u mean it ...
