Cool Couple : Pataudi and Sharmila ... the couple with an unmatched aura.

SHE IS an icon who spells class and ageless charm. Perfectly groomed, Sharmila Tagore is the gracious begum, the actress who has made a success of her life and career. The magic of the Tagore name and the Pataudi charisma make for an unbeatable combination. The cricket star and the enduring player on celluloid have an aura unmatched perhaps by any other couple in the country today. ...She ... 8) :) :P

Sabbath Rest

by HH » Sat Jun 18, 2005 5:55 pm

Sabbath Rest

Many of us realize the importance of the Sabbath, but have confused ideas about how to keep it.

After all, rest has many connotations. For some, it may mean a relaxing game of golf. For others, it may be an afternoon watching television.

Others may think of rest as reading a good book, painting a picture, or writing a poem.

Somehow, these ideas do not seem to fit the Jewish idea of Shabbos.

The Sabbath is supposed to remind us of the drama of creation. But exactly how does this work? How does the Sabbath bring us to recall this?

There is another thing about the Sabbath that many of us seem to find difficult to understand. There is a whole body of ritual law --Halacha-- surrounding the Sabbath. This consists of a set of very stringent rules. ...

During the six days of Creation, G-d asserted His mastery over the universe by actively changing it. On the Sabbath, He "rested" by no longer asserting this mastery.

We emulate G-d by relinquishing our mastery over the world on the Sabbath ...

# We now have a new understanding of work that makes the entire concept of the Sabbath make sense.

This is our definiton:

Work, in the Sabbath sense, is an act that shows man's mastery over the world by means of his intelligence and skill.

# We now also have a definiton of rest:

Rest, in Sabbath sense, is not interfering with nature nor exhibit- mastery over it. It is a state of peace between man and nature.

Wally Lamb : "Keep in a Cool, Dry Place"

by HH » Sun Jun 19, 2005 11:55 am

Wally Lamb : "Keep in a Cool, Dry Place"

This story, my fourth or fifth, was a first-person tale of a hapless fat woman whose jerk of a husband had just left her. Her name was Mary Ann at first and then she became Dolores. I liked Dolores, who was struggling to survive with self-deprecating humor, biting sarcasm, and Twinkies, Devil Dogs, Mallowmars, M&Ms. I put the story in a manila envelope and mailed it to Northeast. For seven months, I heard only the sound of silence. Then one afternoon, long after my publishing fantasies had been reined back in, I got a phone call from the editor, Lary Bloom. He said he was going to publish my story. I hung up, grabbed my wife and danced her around the kitchen. Then I picked up our three-year-old son, Jared, and tossed him so high into the air that his head hit the ceiling. (But don't worry: this was one of those suspended ceilings with the lightweight panels. He didn't hurt his head; it just disappeared for a second or two in the rafters and then re-emerged.) The story, titled "Keep in a Cool, Dry Place," was published in Northeast on Easter Sunday, 1984. I drove at dawn to the convenience store, bought three Hartford Courants, and, for ten minutes, couldn't bear to look. Then I did look, and sat there by myself in the strip mall parking lot, and cried like an idiot. I was on my way.

Now fast-forward 16 years to June of 1999. My son Jared has transformed from that airborne three-year-old into a 6'2" man of 18. These days, if I tried to toss Jared into the air, I'd need back surgery. He helps me heft my luggage out to the driveway where a purring limousine waits. By this time, I've been touched twice by the magic wand of the Oprah Book Club, and readers have responded favorably, and so I am about to go on the road-- flying progressively west on a 12-city book tour to support the trade paperback release of my second novel, I Know This Much Is True. A chauffeur opens the back door for me–a courtesy which embarrasses me a little, just as, when I walk through airports around the country and see my books in racks and storefront windows, I look away from them, grateful but chagrined.

The 100-member Hansa family comes together. Cool Family : A FEW OF THE HUNDRED: The Hansas are a happy lot at family reunions

IT HAS to be a very delicate balance where love and money meet. The Hansa family has not only known it but found its equilibrium too, - where only verbal understandings and internal agreements between members of the family have contributed to the success of a multi-million dollar business story.

Hansa Pictures is a flourishing film distribution company that has endured to outlast more than half a century with the entire business being in the hands of family members - now outnumbering one-hundred - without a single intra family feud whatsoever. It is the third and fourth generation of the Harichand-Premchand progeny, mostly a consortium of cousins, running the show now - carrying on the passion of a proud legacy, the baton of long-standing business that has every property to dazzle the most seasoned businessman.

Diet To Avoid / Control DANDRUFF:

It has been established that a faulty diet can trigger dandruff or even cause the condition to flare up. Follow the suggestions given below:

* Make sure you eat at least one fruit and raw salad every day (cabbage, cucumber, tomato, radish or carrot)

* Eat one green leafy vegetable (greens) every day. It contains a lot of vitamins and minerals especially vitamin A, which is excellent for your scalp.

* Yoghurt is a wonder `food' for your hair.

* Include whole grain cereals such as wheat flour, millets, and legumes such as chana and rajma in your diet. These are rich sources of protein and micronutrients.

* Cut down on salt, sugar, fried food and snacks, as well as aerated drinks.

Rains Bring Mercury Down

Finally Here: Three young schoolgirls enjoy the sudden downpour that lashed the twin cities in the evening marking the onset of monsoon over the entire State.

Rains Bring Mercury Down

HYDERABAD, June 24: The much delayed southwest monsoon finally covered the entire State on Friday and moved to States of Orissa, Jharkhand and Bihar. The rains also brought down the temperatures.
It was supposed to enter the State on June 6 or 7, after entering Kerala coast on June 1. But, the first showers were experienced in parts of Southern Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra on June 8.
Rayalaseema recorded 27 per cent surplus rainfall, while Telangana suffered a 67 per cent deficit rainfall. Though there was rainfall in parts of Telangana and South Coastal districts on June 18, the entire State received rainfall on Friday.

Metpally in Karimnagar district recorded the highest 3 cm rainfall, followed by Allagadda and Manchiryal 2 cm each. Ramagundam, Jagityal, Koilkuntla and Sriramsagar recorded one centimetre each.
Hyderabad received a 7 mm rainfall till 8.30 pm. The rains also brought cheers to farmers. Andhra Pradesh Rytu Sangham president Kolli Nageswara Rao said the rains so far were not sufficient for sowing paddy.

“Canals have no water and there is no sufficient rainfall for sowing paddy. Only dry crops can taken up now,” Mr Nageswara Rao said. The temperature in the city came down to 33.7ºC. The MET office has predicted more rain on Saturday also.

Reconditioning The Body

Reconditioning The Body
Tuesday June 21 2005

Human beings, like every creature on Earth, should live in accordance with the laws of Nature. A slight deviation in the laws of Nature may shorten the lifetime or may force us to lead an unhealthy life.

Most often, the social responsibilities may force us to go against the laws of Nature. But as the saying goes ‘change is the changeless nature of man’ these transformations become part of our life that it’s impossible to wean ourselves from them. Man who has been gifted with a sense of understanding and adaptation can find a way out of this traumatic situation by following certain fundamental laws of Nature.

Lack of exercise, unhealthy respiration, lack of nutritious food, untimely intake of food, usage of synthetic food etc. are the main reasons behind most of our health problems. To tackle all such problems a yearly reconditioning process is done in Kerala. Monsoon is treated as the ideal time for doing this special process. ...

SITTING PRETTY: It was the urge to do something creative that prompted Vivek Khurana, "armed with an engineering degree from Osmania University", to switch careers.

On The Haute Track : Hyderabad Special!

From engineering to fashion industry may have been a drastic career change for Vivek Khurana. But the creative spirit in him compelled him to do something different - turn into an entrepreneur of haute couture. Haute Cool : Cool Hyderabadi - Anshu Modi's Summer Collecti

by HH » Sat Jul 16, 2005 4:04 pm

Haute Cool : Cool Hyderabadi - Anshu Modi's Summer Collection ...

THE EYE is dazzled - and that is not only because of the scorching heat, but also because of Anshu Modi's sizzling summer collection. The queen of bridal wear for the past 22 years has brought a wonderful line for the style conscious Hyderabadi.

Anshu, whose strength lies in intricate detailing, has brought creations that showcase her signature style. In an eye-popping range from Zardozi and Bandani to Kalamkari and Chikankari, each outfit is guaranteed to make a bride feel extra special on her big day. The lehengas with tone on tone embroidery, gold leafs and rich Mughal designs, ensures a princess bride effect.

For the summer, Anshu says she brought "traditional outfits as well as funky, party wear for the cool Hyderabadi." While conventional reds and maroons rule the bridal line, there are lovely saris in pinks, peach and other pastel colours.

"Everything depends on the wearer and her mood," the soft-spoken Calcutta-based designer says with a smile even as she explains the finer details of an absolute darling of a chiffon with strings of pearls in varying sizes that makes for a dramatic pallu.

"There are chiffon saris and ghaghras with glitter embroidery which gives the zardosi effect but is not so heavy and just right for evening wear." There are elaborate ghaghras with sequins, crushed dupattas, mirror work and crystals to be teamed with equally intricate cholis and there are also simple gypsy skirts with a divine belt embellished with cowry shells that can be teamed with a choli and dupatta if you want to go oriental or with the smartest chiffon ponchos this side of the Suez if you want to go occidental.
