As our city's History suggests that in 1586 Muhammad Quli Qutub Shah, the fifth ruler of the Qutub Shahi dynasty founded a new city along the banks of river Musi for his ladylove, Bhagmati. The city was then called Bhagyanagar. Later when Bhagmati entered the royal family, she was honored with the title Hyder Mahal. And Bhagyanagar became Hyderabad.

CtrlAltDel wrote:"hyderabad" is not a colonial name like "bobmay", "bangalore" or "madras". it is the name given by the founder of the city. yes, the founder did name it bhagyanagar b4, but since he is the owner/founder its his prerogative to change the name....
so, HYDERABAD it shud be....
moreover "Bhagyanagar" sounds like the name of some suburb, not a metro city...

I concur with the opinion.
Also I dont get it when people pronounce the Ds as in David when they refer to Hyderabad. Its an easy give away when they claim they are from Hyderabad but actually are from somewhere else or the suburbsand they think its cool

There is a seemingly trend of name changing in our country to be renamed as it was Originally called.
