Sangeet theatre to be replaced by a multiplex

by vivek » Thu Feb 05, 2004 4:38 am

For those of you who don't know, Sangeet would be demolished to give way for a new (another) multiplex in Hyderabad. So you don't get to watch any more movies there after Spiderman 2 for atleast 18 months. Talk about it here.

What?..where and who is looking for me?. Anyway, it seem the same company that owns Sangeet is going to have a 5 screen multplex there. Guess what would all the addicts would do? Sangeet has become a part of everyone's weekend right?

Hyderabadies would miss it more than anyone.

Kishore, try to get Sangeet manager to see this

Let's face it folks, the hall needs a make-over. It's the only hall which has been showing decent movies all these years and by that count, the best option in the city for a movie-goer (who's looking to see 'good' movies).

But the looks of it are pre-historic, and do not match the reputation. Imagine taking a visitor for a movie there.

What's the point if Sangeet plays your kind of movies, but is not your kind of a place to go to?

Sangeet Multiplex

by CtrlAltDel » Fri Feb 06, 2004 2:45 pm

hmmmmm....thats news to me...and a good one at that.

I always felt the hall needed a renovation, esp the seats. But in terms of projection, sound, A/C etc its still top class!

i've seen hundreds of movies in Sangeet since childhood and the 18 month closure would mean i have to watch English movies mostly in Sterling (shudder...shudder) or Skyline (these twins also need a good renovation). I hope all good English movies wud come to Prasad's during those 18 months.

I heard Delhi based PVR chain would construct a Multiplex at hyderabad. Are they they the ones who are taking over Sangeet?

If they are, its great news! I've seen PVR's multiplexes in Delhi...they are really something!

No not PVR, the same Sangeet management would do a re contruction. That is expected in another 18 months or so. A five screen multiplex with food courts and more. BTW, i also heard that another multiplex is underway in Banjara Hills?...

on no....no more BIG screen experience! Watching a movie on Sangeet's huge screen, with the sexy sound system is unmatched. no multiplex screen can match Sangeet's in size and impact. Of course Sangeet needs a renovation, esp the of cramped seating arrangement and the stamp sized lobby.

Instead of a multiplex it could be renovated to be a posh "club-class" single screen cineplex, much like Delhi's Priya cinema (also run by the PVR chain). Even that can include an entertainment center and food courts.

Another downside of "Sangeet Multiplex" i can think of is that persons who cannot afford high priced tickets are deprived of a great destination to watch english movies.

I hope the multiplex revolution does not touch hyderabad "institutions" like Maheshwari-Parameshwari, Santosh-Sapna, Ramakrishna twins, Devi-Sudarshan complex, Shanti, the Sandhyas etc. All they need is a good makeover and refurbishing

(I miss the Surya twins and Sai Kishore...any idea if they'll re-open? I heard the Surya complex is on sale.)

But i realize that ultimately business would prevail and if crowds stay away, multiplexes would be the only profitable alternative.

Surya is a porn hall baby!. Its like the they are show symptoms when are in terminal stages. They start with screening hollywood block busters, then they resort to the dubbed versions, then they start to pull crowd by screening soft porn and then they turn to a marriage hall!!. Anyway, Sai Kishore even i liked it. It was THE destination for movies for me and my gang. With even Sangeet going on a sabbatical, Prasads will be full to the brim. Bad days ahead guys...make good friends with your local pirated CD vendor!

Till early 90s the twin cinemas were only screening the latest Hollywood blockbusters. I can still remember taking my girlfriend there on dates...esp the cozy and tiny box of Surya 35!
Surya 70 had one of the biggest screens in town along with Sangeet. I can still recollect the impact of the "Parting of Red Sea" in 10 Commandments that i saw here, buying tickets in black ('Balcony che ka baara, che ka baara...those were the days!)...!

The twin cinemas were sealed by the commercial taxes department abt 3 years ago, and remained so ever since.

NO WAY :x

NEVER ever see a movie in CD if its coming to (or running in) a cinema.

Impact is totally lost. Also this is one of the main reasons why cinemas are in trouble.

SAY NO TO PIRATED VCDs...Save The Cinemas...
