todays news paper is tomorrows toilet paper

by akhilis2cool » Sat Apr 03, 2004 3:34 pm

Each day we see our newspapers splashing news about the inefficiency, the complacency and the red tapism of govt. and non govt. institutions. But have you ever wondered about the inefficiency of these papers?

Take for example Times of India. It claims to bethe most read newspaper in the country. But it is also a pioneer in presenting negative news on the front page. When Tendulkar, playing in a match where his team mates were his opponents (a friendly practice match, i.e.), scored three ducks, this newspaper published it on the front page as a top headline (Sachin scores three ducks!!). Is it really that important? Are we fools to waste our time reading about how Sachin does in a practice match? More recently, they added extra pages to their daily and gave it a name 'Time Sports'. But it contained just one page of sports news, and the remaining three pages were full of ads. Similar is the case with their additional on Sundays.

And our own daring-to-be-different DC does it too. Take this... one of its additional gives pictures of celebrities whom no one knows except their friends, and the headline says 'so-and-so walks out of so-and-so's party'

What the hell have we got to do with it?

These newspapers are wasting our time. As Sidhu would put it, today's newspaper is tomorrow's toilet paper, or, in our case, RADDI.

DC is a newspaper??? Thats news to me! Its more of a tabloid.

Loved Bachi Karkaria's style in the Sunday edition of the TOI. Man! Humour so seamlessly woven in, in her articles. Also, love the centre page, Mind over Matter. Thought provoking stuff.

The trend these days is 'dumbing down' mate. Newspapers now are designed for the lowest common denominator. Simple words, lots of hindi, colloquial english and slangs thrown around, very short newsreports/ articles, big pictures....They are competing against tv friends. No time for checking and rechecking. A recent headline in DC: ' XXXs killers released'. This politician is pretty much alive, but had an attempt made on him.

I can understand all this, but sorry, cannot appreciate this. Sunday TOI used to be called 'a magazine disguised as a newspaper'. Most newspapers are now 'tabloids disguised as newspapers'. We would need to keep away children from newspapers these days.

Pardon my ranting. The best amongs the heap? The Hindu, Indian Express, The Telegraph and some more

DC: I hate the mornings when I wake up to a DC paper (coz others have a holiday). You could almost equate it to the pamphlets they distribute(some advertisement of a new sweet-shop/creche/comp-institute opening in your neighbourhood) along with it.

TOI: Its ok to the extent that there is a good deal of coverage of the city with a good deal of sensationalism. On Sundays I like it best. I hate their daily supplements .... and coverage of parties, like who cares!

Loved Bachi Karkaria's style in the Sunday edition of the TOI. Man! Humour so seamlessly woven in, in her articles. Also, love the centre page, Mind over Matter. Thought provoking stuff.

Totally with you on this! I like Jug Suraiyas column as well.

Hindu: The main fault I find with it is they are very Chennai-centric. His world starts and ends there. And secondly its too exhaustive, can be tiring at times. I am a big fan of his crosswords tho .... IMO the best!

Indian Express...havent been reading much of it lately

reminds of the article they did on active serial killers in India..

they also had pics of world famous serial killers n the no. of victims..

which was grossly exaggerated n also the pics were incorrect, for ex. David 'Son of Sam' Berkovitz's pic was matched with some other guy and poor SoS wasnt even there amongst the dudes mentioned :!:

I read todays express and it had a huge column in it discribing the scandal and the role of sonia gandhi in it.

Well it has come at a perfectly wrong time for the congress. they hadnt even stopped their celibration of rajiv gandhi being freed when there current president has been accused.

I surely fell she is involved(sonia gandhi that is). That fellow quoatrchi is her bachpan ka saathi. and the co. AE services promised bofors that they would win the contract for them in 6 mths. flat. and win they did for a commission of 3% (abt 7.21 million $) out of thes 7 million $ went to quoatrochi!!!! it is safely locked in the freezed swiss bank account.

In the past she has openly defended quatrochi, i dont think she will do the same now though. rather, she cant afford to do it now.

DC...? hmmm...sex and skin does sell.

its funny, the articles by gayatri reddy do not reflect the views and the opinions of the the general public. her articles are more about the glitteratti.

and the PAGE 3 PEOPLE in the Lifestyle suppplement sucks! bitching, bitching and more bitching!

Mrs. X has an affair with Mrs Y's husband...

i mean , who wants to know about some dumb party thrown by some "shallow in knowledge" socialite?!
