Luci, u r right abt the costs and that the new government shud be given a chance.

i dunno where u r from, but if u r from here u wud remember the track record of the congress in AP, from the 70s onwards.

congres regimes in AP were well known for communal riots, engineered by rivals of the CM from the congress itself.

the CM and his cohorts wud be too busy trying to save their asses from their party rivals, to try think of some development work for the state.

the "high command" in delhi wud change CMs at will by remote control.

....finally, since the congress missed out last 10 years, they wud first see how to make up for lost "opportunities" in filling their pockets.

thats why i am dead against congress and rather support a mid term poll that wud remove them.

now that the congress govt is a reality, i feel only YSR deserves to be CM. since he is a personal friend of Naidu, i hope some of Naidu's ideas have rubbed off on him. lets see how long the other crabs in the party let him last!

i am sorry if i sound like i have utmost contempt for the congress, but its true.
wtf? i no longer care if my posts hurt yr feelings

I have been staying at Hyderabad for the last 14 years now. Though I cannot claim to know much about the political state in the 70s or the 80s, I can recall a bit of the 90s under Channa Reddy and Janardhan Reddy. I recall roads being in a sorry state, the power supply being erratic, etc. But that was ten years ago. That is why they lost the polls in 94, I think. TDP came to power and ruled for ten years.

Obviously what you an I consider development (IT, roads, buildings, flyovers...) is very different from what the majority of the APites consider. Just because there is a difference in view points here does not necessarily mean that either is right or wrong. Before chastising the verdict, please keep in mind that it is the mandate of the people and to demean it would mean derogating democracy.

You are well within your democratic rights to show contempt for a particular party. You don't have to apologise for that. People have very short memories. Not many would remember that the Congress has also done hajjar good stuff - all agri-projects, dams, mega-power plants that you have in the state are the legacy of the congress govt. I am not saying that Babu has not done a lot for the state. He has. But, do you think it would have been possible for him to provide us with uninterrupted power if the govts before him had not invested in that?

It is the carry-forward doctrine that keeps countries on the path of development. Naidu adhered to it when he came to power. Let's just hope the congress does too.

Hear, Hear Lucifer.

I am extremely sorry to see Naidu go, but we shouldn't worry too much. Change is always good for democracy.

I will be in a minority here, but I have different-from-normal perceptions about politicians. I agree with 'all of them are corrupt, all of the same kind stuff', etc. But I have tremendous respect for their managerial ability. I am not from a political background, but I can imagine the sort of abilities to fight & win elections and sustain oneself in the political arena.

My guess is that, in spite of the claims to the contrary, nothing will change in Hyderabad. Yes, the congress may offer free power - for some time. Please note that 'free power' is not the same thing as the govt. underwriting the subsidy element to the electricity board - the latter is what they will do. Very soon, the free power scheme will be fashioned in such a way that only a small proportion of the farmers will really get it free.

The congress is betting on statistics. 7 out of the last 10 years had droughts. This would change soon. With enough rains, the demand for free power will reduce; even if the scheme is scrapped, the protests won't be too strong.
