Foot Prints in the Sand

by Arch » Thu Jun 17, 2004 2:41 pm

Hey, guys, June 20th is Father's Day. Happy Father's Day !

We learnt to celebrate Valentines Day, perhaps some of us do celebrate Mother's Day. how abt' Father's Day too?

Lets celebrate our respective Fathers. those of you who are lucky enuf to have them around u still.. just a suggestion: express urselves and let him kno how much he means to u :)

The following poem is one of my favs'. Hope u too like it just as much. My father and I discovered this poem before he passed away.. It means that much more special to me. Thot I cud share w/ my fullhyd family..

*Footsteps In the Sand*

*One night a man had a dream.

He dreamed he was walking along the beach with

the Lord.

Across the sky flashed scenes from his life.

For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints

in the sand:

one belonging to him, and the other to the Lord.

When the last scene of his life flashed before him

he looked back, at the footprints in the sand.

He noticed that many times along the path of his

life

there was only one set of footprints.

He also noticed that it happened at the very

lowest and saddest times of his life.

This really bothered him and he questioned the

Lord about it:

"Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you,

you'd walk with me all the way.

But I have noticed that during the most

troublesome times in my life

there is only one set of footprints.

I don't understand why when I needed you most you

would leave me."

The Lord replied:"My precious child,

During your times of trial and suffering,

when you see only one set of footprints, it was

then that I carried you."

My Dad is a jewel. I'm planning to gift him a little more peace of mind by not visiting home for a couple months more.

HP... You know I thought of my dad this way.. but I lost him before I could be mature enough to understand him and speak to him, but now.. what I wouldnt give to have him back for some time. That wont happen now... I miss him a lot. :(

Happy fathers day to everyone... and give your dads a call and tell them they were right when they did all the things that they did which you thought were not fair.

I wasnt joking.. I guess his loss has been the big change in my life. Anyway, before I become too senti... Let me change the subject.

What did you guys plan for the Fathers DAY? The last time we had one... I gave my dad a card.. (he hated CARDS and other angrezi things) and a painting; we went out for dinner and ICE-Cream. It was awesome!

Sting is a dad???? I didnt even know hes married. Surprise, surprise.

My dad doesnt like cards and gift on fathers day or his birthdays. Infact, he doesnt believe in all these western holidays. Funny, considering he lives in America. Hes kinda old-fashioned I guess.

Hey, Thanks ZC for welcoming me back :) and yes, it seems to be a 'remembrance' day for some of us who have posted here. Fine enuf. We will make it into a 'Remembering Father's Day'. They will love our optimism :)

I'm sorry, asli that u too lost ur father. But I am sure he will be one among those persons back up there, looking down at the kind of a fine Man that you grew up into, just like that of ZC's father. and Oh, ofcourse, mine too :D

Hey, akhil. Hows' it going? I take Father's Day and other similar angrezi methods of celebration.. with an attitude  I call it Why-Not-I-celebrate-if-I- can-and-feel-wonderful-by-letting-them-know-how-much-I-love/admire/adore/miss-them.

lil' 'Rakshashi', Jaan ? wow. u must b on helluvva cute kid for him to b giving u such cuter a name. Have a lovely time. hey, no wonder u call urslef 'Jaan' :D

 :D   Have fun, Romu, He surely will have fun w/ a son like u.. u will tell him that u r working for free coz its fathers' day? in celebration of him? :) do tell us abt his reaction to that...

Hey, Alexis. Yes, it seems strange that some of us become a little more

traditional after leaving India and some of us become that much more Westernised. anyways, Happy Father's day.

Yes Arch, some people do tend to become more traditional when moving to a foreign land. My parents have always been like this, so I dont know if it because we're in America.

Happy Fathers Day to all the proud poppas in here!!!!!!!!!

i noticed this among many of my friends who now live abroad. In India, they had the "lite lele" attitude towards religion. In US or anywhere they started attending temples regularly n started praying too! when i asked them they say its for comfort of familiar surroundings, activities n people in an alien land, where they feel their identity is lost. what do u ppl say?

I was totally inspired by this when I first saw it as a poster in a friend's room in my hostel. Several years later, the truth sunk into me - that some creative guy hired by Archie's wrote this, and that it is not a true-life incident :). To me, today that appears to be the truth, in several ways.

Its such a beautiful poem (?) nai? but I guess nobody knows who the author is. I understand this has been circulating around since ages, PMOW. I dont think the owner of the Archies' owner was even born then :)

I find it to be very powerful, too.
