Ripple Effect on IT in Hyderabad

Some of the smaller companies here are trying to keep their heads above water and so are the middle level companies. Rather than blaming on the industry scenario alone, I feel most of these should relook at their teams. Companies never bothered about the quality of people they were recruiting. A thorough lack of professionalism can still be seen. At the reception, you see a dandy looking girl chirping happily over the phone, blocking the tel. line of the company and then you find half a dozen employees \'timepassing\' at various points near the entrance itself. Go inside the co. to find a HR person with outdated policies happily enjoying it all but with a stiff countenance. You cannot help but notice the \'supposedly\' well dressed and glib talking marketing person who blames his low performance on the market but has no comprehension on what are the latest developments in technology or the business dynamics. I am sure you would agree that many of these struggling companies have a strong mgt team which picks words like \'empowerment\', \'total customer satisfaction\', \'employee morale\', \'transparency\' et al, but functions safely away from all these nice sounding words and also the so-called hitech-business processes.

Now to end it all, let me as a true mktg person, blame the mkt for causing hiccups in IT business (wonder if I have to include Sep11 and Bin Laden too??)

Agreed. But can someone throw more light on what actually can be done now. The retrenchment would further add to the unemployment issue. As Hyderabadis, we definitely have a major role to play in the IT scenario (just like you find us in other areas). Guys think and share now.

C\'mon nothing can be done to save that. It reached its place thats it. People made money taking the advantage. What can be done is just apply yourself to the field you are in? Nobody should flock into other fields I mean every damn guy wants to be in computers. What is the use of the studies he did for more than 10 yrs..

The demand and supply theory still holds good. How can you prevent someone from not entering a field esp. when it looks green ( read full of money)? No one wants to miss the bus. Right?

Ripple Effect on IT in Hyderabad

I\'m sorry if I\'m too late on this one.

IT in Hyderabad is like a parasite living on the host, IT of USA (and to some extent on European IT). When the host is in deep trouble, it doesn\'t do the parasite well, does it? The parasite will just have to be patient and let the host get healthy...to be able to survive. Once IT in US gets started again, Hyderabad IT can once again be the parasite that it is.

Well, if one doesn\'t like the idea of being a parasite, one has to evolve into a host. Having the good fortune (or is it?) to watch Hyderabad IT for some years now, I don\'t feel we are anywhere near that stage of evolution. There isn\'t even a hope that we will be there in the next 20 years.

So, while we survive and enjoy [sic] being a parasite, let\'s not continue to be too greedy. I mean, let\'s rethink our profit margins. Also, let\'s treat the programmers...well, like human beings.

Ripple Effect on IT in Hyderabad

IT is a field which generated lot of revenue within a short period of time and this forced people to neglect the development of infrastructure, where they had to spend. IT will improve only if other sectors of economy are also improved. Caste and religion barriers are broken down. Buildings are slowly upgraded as per the latest codes. What about drinking water. Why cant everyone have aquaguard. Why should it be so expensive? If other sectors are developed, so will IT?
I am an architect based in USA. Please post questions if you have anydoubts about what I have to say.

Viswanath, are you not talking at the macro level? Looking at buildings and construction, and aiming to improve the economy through them seems a little farfetched. Agreed that every industry contributes to the economy, but if you are looking at a one-to-one relation between Architecture and IT, I am not convinced with you. Unless you are talking about \'Twin Towers\' in a round about way! :)
