If you cared for this girl, then I think it is kind of tacky if you seem to like a new girl every week and could make your life pretty complicated, but if you are genuine and believe you really like the rommate, then telling your ex would be a kind gesture, so she doesn't find out another way and then get into a big fight with her roommate thinking it is her roommate being the tricky one. It is best to fess up to spare hurt feelings in the future and hiding secrets is not a great idea. It is up to ex to decide whether she wants to help you out or NOT, and you should understand her feelings on the issue as you are invading her home life and home stability with the roommate by entering her life again in a different way!
